Scaffolding Work

Scaffolding is a temporary structure used to support workers and materials during construction, maintenance, or repair of buildings and other structures.

Scaffolding work includes erecting, or dismantling a scaffolding where workers are working  more than 4 meters high. Scaffolding work inherently involves risks, especially when working at heights of more than 4 meters. The primary hazards are falls from height for both workers and materials/tools.

Trestle Scaffolding

Supported on tripods or ladders; often used for indoor or low-height work.Tube and Clamp (Tube & Coupler) Scaffolding

Movable Scaffolding Systems (MSS)

More specialized: self-launching for bridge construction or civil-engineering tasks.

Scaffolding Is Important (“Scaffolding Works”)

Access & Work Platform: It gives workers access to high or hard-to-reach places safely.  It can support the weight of workers + materials + tools.Stability & Productivity: Provides stable platforms so workers can move, place materials, and work more efficiently.

Safety: Prevents falls, especially when built with guardrails, toe-boards, and proper access; a well-designed scaffold minimizes risk.

Safety & Regulations

Scaffolding work is considered “high-risk construction work” when heights are involved. only licensed or trained workers should erect, or dismantle scaffold structures.

Scaffolds must be inspected regularly — especially after bad weather, any modification, or before being used.

PPE: Workers on scaffolding should use proper personal protective equipment (helmets, fall-arrest systems, etc.).

Risks and Hazards

Some key hazards and safety issues associated with scaffolding:

Fall risk from height if guardrails or toe boards are missing.

Structure collapse if overloaded or improperly assembled.

Faulty or damaged scaffold components (e.g., bent tubes, weak couplers) can lead to failure.

Improper tie-ins or bracing: scaffold must often be tied to the building / structure for stability.

Risk during assembly/dismantling: needs competent, trained personnel.
